Overview & Eligibility
The family partner/spouse route is designed for people joining a British or Irish citizen, a settled person, or another qualifying sponsor. The relationship must meet the route requirements, and applicants normally need to satisfy English and financial requirements.
Current minimum income requirement: usually £29,000 combined gross annual income for a new partner/spouse application, subject to transitional rules and specified exceptions.
Key Eligibility Checklist
- Applicant and partner normally both 18 or over
- Sponsor has qualifying UK status
- Relationship meets the applicable marriage, civil partnership, cohabitation or fiancé(e) requirements
- Intention to live together permanently in the UK
- Required English-language ability
- Financial requirement normally met at £29,000 combined annual income, or through an allowed alternative route
- Adequate accommodation and general suitability
