There is not a separate general “medical visa”. Private medical treatment is a purpose under the Standard Visitor route. Applicants normally need arrangements for treatment, sufficient funds to pay for it, and a clear intention to leave after treatment or when permission expires.
Medical evidence matters: UKVI guidance requires a letter from a doctor or consultant confirming the condition, estimated cost and likely duration of treatment.
Key Eligibility Checklist
- A medical condition requiring private consultation or treatment in the UK
- Arrangements made with the UK doctor, consultant, hospital or medical facility
- Sufficient funds to pay treatment and living/travel costs
- Clear intention to leave the UK when treatment is completed or permission expires
- No public-health exclusion applicable to the circumstances
Documents You May Need
- Valid passport
- UK doctor/consultant letter confirming condition, treatment, estimated cost and duration
- Hospital/clinic appointment or treatment confirmation
- Evidence of funds and any treatment deposit already paid
- Accommodation and return/onward travel evidence
- Government authorisation if relying on a reciprocal NHS healthcare arrangement
